The Adelaide
Arcade is one of the most visited places in Australia. It is
visited by tourists and also Australians. The Arcade was built
in 1885, it had 50 shops at this time. The Arcade was opened
exactly on the 12 December 1885 by the Governor Sir William
Robinson. The first stone was laid on the 6 May 1885 by the
Mayor of Adelaide called William Bundey. In the Arcade there is
something very exotic, the Turkish Baths which is located on the
South East corner. The Building caught fire in August 1980, the
fire originated from the Gays Arcade and damaged the Adelaide
Arcade at the cost of 2 million dollars, and the arcade was
closed for over one week. |
