capital of South Australian State of Australia. Adelaide
is the fifth largest city in Australia. It has a population of
over 1.1 million. Adelaide is a coastal city. Its name was given
in honour of the Queen Adelaide. The city was founded in 1836.
Adelaide is located on Adelaide Plains between the Gulf St.
Vincent and Mount Lofty Ranges in the North of the Fleurieu
Peninsula. Adelaide is known for its wine, arts, sports and
festivals. In the past Adelaide was populated by the Kaurna
Aboriginal. In 1900 Electric Street was introduced in Adelaide.
In 1909 Electric trams started transporting people. For the
First World War 28.000 men were sent to fight. The climate of
Adelaide is Mediterranean; it mostly rains in winter time.
Adelaide is considered as the driest Australian capital cities. |
