The National Trust is non government organisation; it has been created to conserve Australia’s indigenous, the historic and natural heritage. In 1965 the Australian Council of National Trusts (ACNT) was formed. The ACNT all together owns or manages over 300 heritage places. Yearly there is around one million visitors experience their properties. South Australia has over hundred historical buildings as here on the above picture the Ayers House on North Terrace, the Collingrove Homestead in Angaston, and the Beaumont House. The National Trust of South Australia manages around 28 natural reserves. The Ayers House is one of the last nineteenth century house found along North Terrace. The house is constructed of local blue stone. Sir Henry Ayers lived in this house from 1855 till 1897, during the year 1860 he made of this nine room house a grand mansion. Henry Ayers earned his fortune from Burra Burra Copper Mine also known as the “Monster Mine”. Henry Ayers was born in England in May 1821. He emigrated with his wife Elizabeth in South Australia in 1840. He was engaged in the Bura Bura mine in 1845 as secretary and very quickly he had under his control one thousand workers. Afterwards he was the managing director of the mine for almost 50 years. Henry Ayers died in June 1897 in Adelaide.
