The palm House of
the Botanical Garden of Adelaide is also known as the old
greenhouse. The palm house or glasshouse was imported from
Bremen, Germany in 1875 and opened in 1877. It is a Victorian
glasshouse which is located west side of the main lake of the
garden. The term Victorian refers to an architectural style. A
greenhouse or glasshouse is an area where plants are cultivated.
These types of buildings are usually made of glass or plastic,
the electromagnetic radiation of sun warms the soil plants or
other things in the glasshouse. Most greenhouses are used to
grow flowers, fruits, tobacco, and vegetables. The Greenhouse of
the Botanical garden has large collection of plants from
Madagascar. |
