Sir Samuel
James Way was born in England in the year 1836; his father the
Reverend James Way was clergyman in the Bible Christian Church.
He emigrated in South Australia in the year 1850. In 1852 the
family left England to join the Reverend Way in 1853. Samuel
Way was elected in 1874 as a member of the University of
Adelaide. In 1875 he was elected as member for Sturt. In 1876 he
had the post of vice chancellor of the University of Adelaide
and became the chancellor of the university in 1883. Samuel Way
acted in 1877 as Governor of South Australia and he was
officially declared as Lieutenant Governor of South Australia in
1891. Samuel Way married Katherine Blue in 1898. In 1914 a
cancer was diagnosed on Samuel Way, he travelled to Sydney to
get his arm amputated thinking that this would delay his cancer,
but it didn’t help him. Even he was sick he continued his job as
Chief Justice until 1915 and passed away in January 1916. |
