On the above picture you can see the clock of the Town Hall of Adelaide. The Town hall of Adelaide is considered as the largest municipal building south of the Equator. The Town hall was officially opened in June 1866. When the Tower of the Town Hall was built circular holes were left open. It was hoped at that time that the citizens of Adelaide would donate a clock to the Town Hall. But it was only in 1935, that a former Lord Mayor, Sir Lavington Bonython donated a clock to the Town Hall. Sir Bonython explained that his donation of the clock to the Town Hall was as he did not wear a watch it was a good way of telling the time. The Bonython’s clock faced north, south and west.
