The University of Adelaide was established in 1874, the university is the third oldest in Australia. Walter Watson Hughes made a donation of 20.000 pound as from then the university was established. The first chancellor of the University was Sir Richard Hanson and the first vice chancellor was Dr Augustus Short. Sir Richard Hanson was the fourth Premier of South Australia from September 1857 until May 1860 and was also the chief justice of South Australia. Dr Augustus Short was born in England; he was the first Anglican Bishop of Adelaide. The main campus of the University is the North Terrace campus. There is also the Waite campus, the Roseworthy campus and the Thebarton campus. The University of Adelaide counts over 18.000 students.
