The Goanna is
considered as a predatory lizard. It seems that the name Goanna
derived from Iguana, another lizard species. It exist around
twenty species of Goannas and fifteen of them are unique to
Australia. Most of the time, Goannas are quite large lizard,
with sharp claws and teeth. The largest Goanna is the Perentie,
it can grow up to 2 meters. The Perentie is usually found in the
arid areas of Australia. It the third largest lizard in the
world, the largest is the Komodo Dragon and the second largest
lizard is the water monitor. Goannas as most lizards lay eggs,
most of them lay eggs in a nest but some species lay their eggs
inside the termite mounds. You find Goannas throughout Australia
except in Tasmania. Most species are ground dwelling or
terrestrial. The most common Goannas is known as the Sand Goanna
which is also known as the sand monitor. Some Goannas species
are the mangrove goanna, timor tree monitor, short-tailed
monitor, black-tailed goanna, lace monitor, rosenberg’s goanna,
mournful tree monitor, perentie, sand goanna. |
