The ostrich also known as Struthio camelus a Greek word meaning “sparrow camel”, form part of the Struthionidae family and is the single living species of its family. The ostrich is a big bird that can’t fly. The Ostrich is considered as one of the largest living bird. Their weight is usually from 90 kg to 130 kg, some of them have been recorded with more weight. The ostrich is sexually matured between the age of 2 and 4 years and females are most of time six months earlier matured. The mating seasons starts from March and can end in September. Ostriches lay quite big eggs; it can weigh up to 1.3 kg. Ostriches have a nomad behavior usually living in a group of 5 to 50 birds they often travel with other animals as antelopes or zebras. They feed themselves mainly of plants and seeds, sometimes they also eat insects. Ostriches enjoy water and bath but they can also live without water for a long period of time. The ostrich has an average of life of 50 years but they can also live till 70 years. Ostriches are farmed all over the world. In Australia, US and UK Ostriches are considered as dangerous animals. Male ostriches can sometimes be very aggressive and territorial.
