Pigs are
native to Eurasia; they are grouped under the genus Sus and make
part of the Suidae family. People have started to farm pigs and
use them for their meat called pork and also for leather; their
hairs are usually used for brushes. Pigs are omnivores; they eat
both plants and animals. In European countries some pigs are
used to find truffles because of their great sense of smell. The
pigs that are farmed are also fattened to be eaten as bacon or
ham. There is some pigs species that are kept as pet as the
Asian Pot-Bellied pig. Pigs are animals that do not sweat, they
use mud to protect them from the sun, and when it is too hot
they use water or mud to cool themselves. It seems that the word
pig comes from the old English word “picg”. There are different
pig species as the Timor Warty, Poulter Warty, Philippines
Warty, Javan Warty, Malaysian Pig, Visayas Warty, Vietnamese
Warty, Bearded Pig, Domestic Pigs, Razorback and Wild boar. The
pig makes part of the Chinese Zodiac, in Chinese astrology each
animal is related to some personality traits. Jews and Muslims
are forbidden to eat pig meat. |
