Snakes are legless reptiles and are very close to lizards. They make part of the Squamata order. There is also some legless lizard that looks a lot like snakes. An ophiologist is someone who studies snakes. An ophiophilia is someone who loves snakes and someone who is afraid of them is called an ophidiophobia. Snakes have a skin covered with scales; it may be keeled, granular or smooth. Snakes are carnivorous, they eat small animals, they also eat lizards and other snakes, and some snake species are venomous and use their venom to kill their prey. The snake venom is the saliva highly modified. The snake can open their mouth very wide to swallow their whole prey. Snakes are considered to have a very good vision, they have no external ears. To smell the snake uses its forked tongue. There is about a quarter of the snakes species venomous. Some venomous snakes are the Black Snake, Bamboo Viper, Boiga, Brown Snake, Egyptian Cobra, Black Mamba, Indian Cobra, Lancehead, Fierce Snake and the Tiger Snake. The Brown Snake, the Pseudonaja is native to Australia. It is considered as one of the most dangerous snake in the country.
