National Australia Bank
The NAB, National Australia Bank is the largest bank in
Australia. The National Australia Bank forms part of the Top
30 world financial companies. The Australian Bank operates
in around ten countries.
The National Australia Bank was founded in June 1893 and has
its headquarters in Melbourne.
Until 1981 the bank was operating under the name of National
Bank of Australasia Limited, when it merged with the
Commercial Banking Company of Sydney Limited then only it
became National Australia Bank.
Alexander Gibb and Andrew Cruickshank were those one who
created in 1858 the National Australia Bank with
headquarters in Melbourne. Andrew Cruickshank became the
first chairman. In the same year of foundation the bank
opened its first Branch in South Australia. In 1859 the next
branch was opened in Tasmania, in 1866 in Western Australia
New South Wales in 1885 and in 1920 in Queensland.
The National Australia Bank opened in 1859 in Mauritius but
closed within a year as it was not successful, in contrary
to the London branch in 1864 which was founded to handle
payment and financing export of Australian wool and gold.
The bank closed its doors during the banking crisis in 1893
as many other banks in Australia.

The Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited is known
usually under ANZ and is in Australia the third largest
bank. The ANZ was founded in 1835; the headquarters is
located in Melbourne.

started in London in 1835 when the Bank of Australasia was
founder under Royal Charter. The Union Bank of Australian

Banking was launches by ANZ. In 2001 ANZ acquires seventy
five percent of the Bank of Kiribati. The one millionth
customer Internet banking for ANZ Australia was registered
in 2002. In 2007 the ANZ wins award “Bank of the Year” from
Money Magazine.

The Bank of Queensland was founded in 1874 and has its head
office in Brisbane. The bank of Queensland is a full service
retail bank, one of Queensland’s oldest financial
organizations. The Bank of Queensland has 152 branches in
Queensland, 23 in Victoria, 52 in New South Wales and 34 in
Western Australia.
The history of Bank of Queensland started in 1874 where the
Investment Society and the Brisbane Permanent Benefit
Building was founded and the society incorporated in 1887.
In 1921 the Bank merge with City and Suburban Building
Society, in 1931 it merges with Queensland Deposit Bank. In
1942 they received a trading bank licence and became a
saving bank not a “trading bank”. It was only in 1970 that
the company got its present name Bank of Queensland and the
operations were able to be done over computers. In 1982 The
BoQ Savings Bank was recognised as a wholly owned
subsidiary. In 1999 around ten percent shares was sold to
Bank of Hawaii. The shares bought were sold in BoQ and the
5.4mn convertible bank notes. In 2004 the Bank of Queensland
opened branches in Victoria, Australia Capital Territory and
New South Wales.
