At the turn of the century, reality
shows have started proliferating in TV stations all over the
world. And Australia is one of those nations that adopted
the fad that crazed millions of TV audiences of all ages.
Originating from the UK, Australia’s Got Talent is a
spin-off of the reality TV show Britain’s Got Talent.
Same with its predecessor, Australia’s Got Talent showcases
the different talents of the Australian people. The show
does not limit the contestants to a particular kind of
talent. If anything, it even encourages any and all talents
outside of the usual sing and dance numbers.
So here, one will see a wide variety
of production numbers ranging from the usual sing and dance,
to theatrical, to operatic, to magic, and even to eccentric
and peculiar abilities that have never been seen before.
The contestants that are actually
shown on television have first undergone a series of rigid
auditions and screening before finally performing on air.
But even then, they are not assured to get the approval of
the stern judges. The
mechanics is that the contestants perform on stage
under the scrutiny of meticulous judges.

The judges
can fail them right on the spot even in the middle
of the performance by clicking or buzzing a cross
mark if they don’t like what they see.
And should
they get a cross mark from all three judges, they
have to stop right there and then.
But even if
they were able to finish their act without being
interrupted by the buzzers of the judges, they are
still not sure to win or get in the next round as
they have to get approvals from at least two of the
three judges. Should they get only one, they
wouldn’t qualify for the next round. Australia
Got Talent was first seen on television through
Seven Network on the 18th of February 2007. Grant
Denver hosted the show while three prominent
celebrities passed strict judgment on the
contestants.

The judges of the first season were Tom Burlinson, Dannii Minogue
and Red Symons.
The show
proved to be a hit with audiences that it was moved
from a conservative timeslot at Sunday early evening
to a more competitive Tuesday prime timeslot at
night.
Followed religiously by the Australian people, the
reality show was given another season, which started
on the 29th of April 2008.
Still proving to be a
success, it was given yet another season of airing,
which began on the 4th of February 2009, this time
on Wednesday nights. Its fourth season started in
April 2010. |
