Perhaps only a few people are aware
that some of the notable movies they have seen on the big
screen are actually from Australia. Yes, Australia has its
own share in the global movie industry that is more
popularly known as Hollywood. Australia also has its own
line of famous actors and actresses that grace the Hollywood
scene and make it a little brighter.
Some of them we already know very well like, Eric Bana,
Geoffrey Rush, Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman, Hugo Weaving,
Mel Gibson, and of course the late Heath Ledger. Other
actors that we, or our parents, may have heard from in the
past are Anthony LaPaglia, Barry Humphries, Bill Hunter,
Bryan Brown, Charles Tingwell, Chips Rafferty, Chris
Hemsworth, David Argue, David Gulpilil, David Wenham, Ed
Devereaux, Ernie Dingo, Errol Flynn, Guy Pearce, Jack
Thompson, Jesse Spencer, John Jarratt, John Meillon, Julian
McMahon, Leo McKern, Max Cullen, Nick Tate, Noah Taylor,
Paul Hogan, Peter Finch, Peter Phelps, Richard Roxburgh, Rod
Taylor, Sam Worthington, Simon Baker and Yahoo Serious.

Meanwhile
the more famous Australian actresses that we admire
include Cate Blanchett, Holly Valance, Isla Fisher,
Kylie Minogue, Miranda Otto, Naomi Watts, Natalie
Imbruglia, Nicole Kidman, Olivia Newton-John, Portia
de Rossi, Rose Byrne, and Toni Collette. The less
famous ones are Abbie Cornish, Belinda Emmett,
Dannii Minogue, Deborah Mailman, Elle Macpherson,
Emilie de Ravin, Emily Browning, Greta Scacchi, Judy
Davis, Lorraine Bayly, Magda Szubanski, Melissa
George, Noni Hazlehurst, Peta Wilson, Rachael
Taylor, Rachel Griffiths, Ruth Cracknell, Sigrid
Thornton, and Yvonne Strahovski. Some of these
famous actors and actresses are actually
award-winner of prestigious award-giving bodies such
as Golden Globe Awards, The Oscars, BAFTA and AFI. |

Happy Feet is probably the most
expensive Australian movie ever, but not for naught as it
won the best animated film award from the Oscars. The most
recent and perhaps the most memorable Australia movies for
us are Moulin Rouge, Happy Feet and Australia. All three
movies star Nicole Kidman in them. In Moulin Rouge, she was
the most sought-after courtesan courted by the aspiring
playwright played by Ewan McGregor.

In Happy Feet, she was the penguin mother of the
dancing penguin Mumble (Elijah Wood) and wife to Memphis
(Hugh Jackman). In Australia, Kidman partners again with
Jackman in a gripping dramatized history of Australia. Other
popular Australia movies that we may have seen include:
Gallipoli, Crocodile Dundee, Muriel’s Wedding and Babe. All
of which earned worldwide acclaim and awards. And of course,
who could forget the world record holder Mad Max for having
the highest profit to cost ratio ever? It was the movie that
launched Mel Gibson to the Hollywood arena. |
