Pitjantjatjara is the name given to both aboriginal people and
central Australian desert. They have their own pitjantjatjara
language which is no longer really spoken nowadays. Till today
there is maybe about only 4000 of the Anungu people scattered
across the north-west part of South Australia. Even though the
evolutionary change in societies has made them lead our life
style their cultures and mythological stories have stayed up to
date. After many years of terror and fights where blood has been
spread over the land by the European dingo settlers and hunters,
the Anungu have be given 73,000 square kilometres of land for
their personal use in 1921. Charles Duguid fought tirelessly for
their security. They had many problem concerning land rights and
still the Anungu stay together. They have been offered 103,000
square kilometres of land after several confrontations with the
Australian government. However, with time their culture
disappears and all that is left is the very rarely spoken
language and their dreamful and incredible stories relating the
Uluru together with the aboriginal myths. |
