Some few years ago, during the Second World War thousands
of brave soldiers killed were the result of hard and injustice
labour. The gull force is the name given to the force which
defended Ambon, a number of 1100 men. Their task was to join the
Netherlands East Indies troops to defend the Bay of Ambon as
well as their two airfields of Laha and Liang. A very difficult
task certainly when keeping in mind that blood was spread for
months. On this picture, a memorial was built to remember their
efforts. Soldiers died after harsh brutal conditions. Some
killed by shots, others wounded. A big number of them starved of
inadequate diets. Thrill flows through veins when memories are
lifted back to the surface. Many men were executed for no other
reason while trying to escape and return to their home country.
Witnesses are hard to find has one said. Too many died to be
able to give the right image of what exactly happened between
1939 and 1945. One among many sad events! |
