Jabiru is located in the Northern Territory, Australia. It is a town and also the site of the Ranger Uranium Mine. The area is surrounded by the Kakadu National Park.  Jabiru is for Australian also a bird known as the black necked stork. It is a large wading bird which forms part of the stork family Ciconiidae. Jabiru is mostly found in northern half of Australia. There is also in America a bird called Jabiru, but it is not the same bird and is from another genus. The black necked stork is a huge bird which can be between 1m30 to 1m50 tall and has a wingspan of 2m30. Their main food is large insects, frogs and fish as their relatives but they also eat lizards and young birds. The Jabiru of Australia is considered as an endangered species. The Jabiru is very sensitive to the changes in the environment as habitat destruction and water pollution. In Perth Zoo you will also discover the Jabiru species.
