In Northern
Australia the monsoon or wet season is described by a north
westerly monsoonal flow and the dry season is when the south
easterly trade winds. Usually monsoon is a seasonal reversal of
wind direction. Monsoon season in Australia is from November to
April and the dry season is from April to November. In Australia
north west it is very dry. The differences of temperature of
landmasses in contrast to the temperature of the ocean cause the
change of wind direction. Monsoon means also a lot and heavy
rainfall. Kakadu National Park region wait the monsoon season as
the life depends on water. So at this period of the year they
are able to have water. The aboriginal people of Kakadu call it
Gunumeleng, for them it is the pre-monsoon. It is also at this
period the people will move from the floodplain because of the
violent storms. Kakadu has also the longest surviving human
culture in the world. |
