The South Alligator River forms part of the Alligator Rivers. The Alligator Rivers have three rivers the West East and South river. Alligator Rivers is also name of a region of Arnhem Land. The Ranger Uranium Mine is also located there. You will discover in the region around one thousand and five hundred sites of Australian Aboriginal art. The Kakadu National Park is part of the World Heritage sites. In the year 1820 Phillip Parker King explored the land and it is him who gave this name to the place but he mistook saltwater crocodiles for alligators. The length of the South Adelaide River is around one hundred and sixty kilometers. It starts from from Mount Slow on the Arnhem Plateau. The river ends in Timor Sea in the Van Diemen Gulf. The climate in the region of Alligators Rivers is mostly a monsoon climate as most of the regions of northern Australia.  There have been aboriginal people living in the area for fifty thousand years. The region has also magnificent cave and rock paintings.
