On the picture
above you can see what the aborigines used to do in their spare
time. Painting is very important for the Aboriginal people. The
aboriginal art is the key of their rituals and their culture.
These paintings were used to mark territory, to record history,
or tell stories. The paintings were made of water mixed with
ochre or rock pigments. The paintings were not only made on
rocks but also on persons or bark. Often primitive tools were
used as primitive sticks or brushes even fingers, and they had
also other techniques as spraying the paint out of the mouth.
The paintings had also a religious art. In these painting they
could express themselves. While having a visit in Katherine you
will be able to admire these aboriginal paintings. |
