Borroloola is located in Katherine in the Northern Territory of
Australia. It is located on the Gulf of Carpentaria. The Golf of
Carpentaria is a swallow and large sea. It is said that the gulf
is young in the geological terms as at the last ice age it was a
dry land. Land that borders the Gulf is general flat. The major
rivers of the gulf are the Roper, Norman, Wilton, Mac Arthur,
Cox, Flinders, Calvert, Leichhardt, Gilbert, Archer, Staaten,
Alice, Mitchell, Mission, Wenlock and Smithburne. The first
Explorer from Europe to visit this region was Willem Janszoon
from Holland in 1606. In the years 1802 and 1803 it was visited
by the Captain Matthew Flinders. Ludwig Leichhardt was the first
overland explorer in 1844 and 1845. |
