While
traveling in the Northern Territory, you will cross along your
way these strange trucks they call road train as you notice on
the above picture. These types of trucks will be mostly found in
Australia, United States and Canada. This road train has been
designed to move bulky loads. The road train is designed as a
normal truck that you find anywhere with the cab, chassis and
engine, the only difference is that instead of pulling one
trailer it pulls more than one, usually a minimum of three
trailers. These trucks are used to transport all types of
material, but the most common transport is animals as pigs,
goats, sheeps, deers, poultry, cattles and yaks. The world
longest road train was recorded in 2006 with 1.442 metres long
and 104 semi-trailers, in Kalgoorie in Western Australia, in
1999 Marleys transport was recorded in the Guinness Book as
having the longest road train, it was in Merredin, in Western
Australia, the truck had 45 trailers measuring 610 meters, and
weighing 603 metric tons. |
