In Australia
especially in the Northern Territory, there are quite a big
number of termites. Termites are composed of seven families and
around 2500 species. Termites are also known as white ants. They
looks a little like ants that’s why called “white ants”. They
are one of the best known insects as they feed themselves of
wood and damage the environment. The length of a termite will
rarely be over 10 mm and has a small and soft body. They also
have biting mouthparts. Their living condition is usually in
dark, cool, moist nests. When a queen is matured it can lay up
to several thousand eggs per day. They are also compared to ants
as they are also divided in different colonies, the workers, the
soldiers, and those living with the queen. Termites feed
themselves in cellulose, which is a rich source of energy. It is
known that termites cannot be eliminated by fire. |
