In 2005 in
Melbourne, Australia, the ten years Grand Prix was celebrated.
Since 1995 the annual Grand Prix is held at Albert Park and
formerly it was at Adelaide Street Circuit. The Grand Prix was
held between three and six March in 2005. For this occasion free
public transport was offered to public who wanted to assist to
the Grand Prix in Melbourne Australia. John Pandazopoulus who
was the Minister of Tourism and Major Events proposed to the
fans of car racing to take the tram for free and leave their
vehicles at home. At this time they expected around three
hundred and sixty thousand people to assist to Grand Prix. The
free transport was provided to all persons who were holder of a
Grand Prix ticket. The Grand Prix is also known as Formula One,
it is sport consisting of auto racing. In abbreviation it is
written F1. The Formula 1 was founded in 1946. The F1 is
directed by the FIA, Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile.
This famous auto racing gathers every year millions of people in
front of their television to watch the F1or in the country where
the Grand Prix is held. It is a car race of high speed which
usually is over three hundred km/h which gives very high
adrenaline. It is a very dangerous sport as well, as there has
been lot of accident during races. Since the car race started
there has been a lot of different type of engines. A Grand Prix
is held annually in different countries and Australia make part
if this car race. It was only in 1985 that Australia joined the
F1 World Championship. It was the last race of the Formula One
season and it was held on the streets circuits of Adelaide. The
Adelaide Street Circuit has been used for F1 racing until 1995.
And after that Albert Park was designed to be the next circuit
for Grand Prix in Australia. On the circuit of Albert Park there
was tragedy during the year 2001, there was a volunteer, Graham
Beveridge a marshal who was killed. There was a crash between
Jacques Villeneuve, a Canadian car racer and Ralf Schumacher a
German car racer, during the collision a wheel flew at over
ninety km/h through the fencing and struck Graham Beveridge in
the chest. |
