The Jam Factory is located in Melbourne, 500 Chapel Street,
South Yarra. It is a complex with shopping and entertainment
centre. In the jam factory Village you also have access to a
Village Roadshow Cinema Complex. For those who are cinemas fans,
it is a great place to visit. The Jam Factory Village contains
also a large number of restaurants and bars, shops, a virgin
megastore, fashion shops. The Jam Factory is very famous in
Melbourne. The Victoria Brewery was located on this site as from
1858. In 1876 the building was bought by Robert Wright and
Robert Payne to start the Victoria Preserving Company. Under the
name of “Red Cross” in 1880, it was employing 230 people and was
considered as the largest employer of Prahran, a suburb of
Melbourne. In 1895 William Peocock bought the building and
changed it into “OK” Jam Co. After that he sold it to Henry
Jones Limited Company and the Henry Jones IXL brand name. Until
1970 Jam production was continued. In October 1979 the building
was reopened after it was redeveloped. The cost of the
redevelopment was $20 million. |
