Melbourne has
been founded on the River Yarra. The Yarra River is in southern
Victoria, Australia. The Wurundjeri people who where living in
the yarra valley called the river Birrarung. The Wurundjeri
people occupied the area before the arrival of the European.
John Helder Wedge called the river Yarra Yarra in 1835. He
thought at this time that it was the aboriginal name for the
river. The Yarra River lower that travels through central
Melbourne has a length of around two hundred and forty two
kilometres. Some of the main tributaries of the Yarra River are
Plenty River, Merri Creek, Gardiners Creek, Monne Ponds Creek,
Darebin Creek and Maribyrnong River. The Upper Yarra Dam is one
of the main dams that supplies Melbourne in water. The Yarra
