This is a
picture of the Royal Arcade located in Melbourne. The arcade has
been designed in a T form; it has three main entrances, the
Little Collins Street, Elizabeth Street and Bourke Street. The
arcade has been built in 1869. When you look at the picture
above you can also see the two guardians of the Royal Arcade,
Gog and Magog. You can also see in the middle of Gog and Magog
the Gaunt’s clock. In 2002 the arcade has been restored. The
original designer of the Royal Arcade is Charles Webb. The Royal
Arcade forms part of the Victorian Heritage Register. Charles
Webb is an architect born on 26 November 1821 in England. He has
been working as an architect during the nineteenth century in
Victoria, Australia. Here are some his of his designs, in 1856
he designed the Melbourne Church of England Grammar School. In
1863 the Church of Christ, in 1869 the Royal Arcade, in 1876 the
Mandeville Hall, in 1878 the Tasma Terrace, in 1879 South
Melbourne Town Hall, the primary School number 1253, Mosspennoch in 1882, Grand Hotel in 1883 and Charsfield. He
passed away in January 1898. |
