Cricket is a famous sport in Australia. In the Yarra Park is located the Melbourne Cricket Ground also known as MCG. You can easily access to the Melbourne Cricket Ground by the Jolimont and Richmond train stations. The MCG is an open stadium, it is well known for the Summer Olympics in 1956 and also for the Commonwealth Games in 2006. Every year is held in the stadium the Boxing Day test match which starts on the Boxing Day. Most of the time in winter the stadium is used for Australian rules football with a minimum of one game every week. The Melbourne Cricket Ground can receive up to one hundred thousand people. On the picture you can see a team playing cricket. Cricket is usually a game between two teams of eleven players each. The cricket game consists of the players, a ball and bat. The cricket game consists of forty two laws. These laws have been decided by the Marylebone Cricket Club in accordance to the main cricketing nations. In fact to win the game one team must score more runs than the other team. Usually the playing field of cricket is an oval or circular shaped grassy ground. Traces of the cricket game have been found during the thirteenth century. It seems that the game originally started in the Weald, which was formerly known as a dense forest, situated between Kent and Sussex.
