The statues
you see on the picture are found on Swanston Street in
Melbourne. The Swanston Street is the main street of Melbourne
in the central business district. The street has been named
after Charles Swanston a banker from Tasmania and also member of
the Port Phillip Association. From north to south the street
runs approximately between Elizabeth Street and Russell Street.
When you cross the Princes Bridge over the Yarra River it is not
any more the Swanston Street but the St Kilda Road. While
walking on the Swanston Street you will come along a large
number of famous buildings and landmarks of Melbourne as the
Federation Square, a very popular square in Melbourne, the City
Square, the Flinders Street Station with its fabulous
architecture, the Melbourne Town Hall, where the Local
Government Area of Melbourne seats. You will also come along the
University of Melbourne and RMIT University, the State Library
of Victoria, Cathedral of St Paul, the Capitol Theatre, The
Church of Christ, the Nicholas Building which was built in 1925,
the pub of Young and Jackson, a very popular pub in Melbourne
established in 1861. The Hi-Fi Bar is also on the Swanston
Street. |
