On the above
picture you can see a tram driver driving a tram. You want to
learn more about trams, you can have a visit to the Melbourne
Tram Museum located at Hawthorn Tram Depot, Corner Power Street
and Riversdale Road. The Melbourne Tram Museum is only open
every second Saturday of each month from one pm to five pm. In
the museum you will discover seventeen completely restored trams
which include the prototype of the Z-class whose first
introduction was in 1975, the V-class from 1906, and numerous
models of the popular W-class. The Hawthorn Tram Depot located
at Hawthorn was opened in April 1916. The first type of tram
that existed was the horse-drawn tram and after came the cable
trams. The demonstration of the first electric tram was at the
Carlton Gardens in 1888. The train network for electrification
started in December 1913 and the project was stopped during the
First World War. The Flinders Street Station is very popular in
whole Australia. Since March 2006 smoking is not any more
allowed in all sheltered areas in the Flinders Street Station. |
