The church St
Mary’s is located in Sydney Australia, it is a catholic church.
At first there has been the chapel of St Mary’s which was
constructed by Governor Lachlan Macquarie. In 1835 John Bede
Polding, who was the first bishop of Sydney came to live in.
John Polding became in 1842 the first Archbishop of Sydney. The
Cathedral St Mary’s was destructed in a fire in 1865. During the
same year the new cathedral started to be built. The
construction needed around sixty years to be completed. The
Cathedral St Mary’s has a spectacular architecture; the
architecture is of the Gothic Revival of the nineteenth century.
The cathedral is as beautiful from the inside as from outside.
The length of the cathedral is over one hundred meters. In the
neighborhood of the St Mary’s Cathedral is the Hyde Park and it
is surrounded by Cathedral Street and College Street and also
the Albert Road. The Cathedral of St Mary’s is quite big in size
which is not usual. |
