The Pylon Lookout is a must to visit when you are in Sydney. The
Pylon Lookout is located on the Harbour Bridge on Cumberland
Street. It is opened everyday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. except on
Christmas Day. From the Pylon Lookout visitors will have a
panoramic scene of the city of Sydney, the Circular Quay, Port
Dension, Opera House, and Goat Island. To go to the top of the
pylon, you need to climb the stairs, which brings you through
the history of the construction of the bridge. There is also a
Museum that can be visited where visitors will discover the
difficulties the workers, engineers, masons, labourers had. The
pylons are eighty nine metres high and are made of concrete and
faced with granite. The construction started in 1922 and in 1932
it was officially opened. In 1934 the south east pylon was
opened to public, it was Archer Whitford a businessman who had
the idea to make it a tourist attraction, where is found an
aboriginal museum, a café and other attractions. The Harbour is
